Will Porterfield congratulates Aaron Finch on equalling his ODI ton record

EXCLUSIVE: Will Porterfield has congratulated Aaron Finch on equalling his seven ODI centuries as a non-Test player, but hopes not to be in that category long of his country play Tests.

Porterfield, the Ireland captain, currently in Australia where his team are involved in the Inter Continental Cup, told us: “It is no concern to me that the record has now been equalled.

“In fact, congratulations to Aaron Finch on a fantastic start to his career,” he continued. “I am sure that is he keeps performing how is is then he will fulfil every Australian cricketers dream of wearing the Baggie Green cap.”

Finch equalled Porterfield’s century tally in the fourth ODI against India on Wednesday at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Porterfield also hopes his own part in the record may not last very long: “As for myself and Ireland, we too hope to play Test cricket in the near future so that records like these will become obsolete to us.”

Porterfield has scored 2,460 runs in 84 ODIs, whereas Finch’s 2,072 runs have come in 56 ODIs.
