Brad Haddin and Eoin Morgan pull out of IPL auction

Brad Haddin has cited family reasons for pulling out of Wednesday’s auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL), while Eoin Morgan has opted to push to regain his England Test place over white ball cricket.

Haddin is currently in South Africa preparing for the forthcoming Test Series after playing a pivotal role in Australia’s recent Ashes triumph.

Morgan’s withdrawl comes just two days before the hammer starts to fall. He tweeted today, “I would like to thank @IPL for accepting my request to withdraw from this years auction. Good luck with the tournament.”

Morgan, now 27, seems to be vying for the Test place recently vacated by Kevin Pietersen. He will be hoping that a run of Championship cricket with Middlesex will advance his cause for a place in the middle-order against Sri Lanka and India.

It is not a surprise that Haddin has made himself unavailable. His recent form had enabled him to demand the highest base price of over $320,000 USD, but his appetite for the IPL is far from voracious - he has only played one IPL match for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011.

South Africa fast bowler Chris Morris is unavailable due to injury which reduces the list of players available to the IPL franchises to a ‘mere’ 511.
