#CWC15: Mike Hussey abseils Wrest Point with ICC Cricket World Cup‏

Mike Hussey has celebrated that there are only three weeks to go until the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup by abseiling down West Point Tower in Hobart.

Hussey clutched the World Cup as he descended to mark the conclusion of the Trophy Tour in Tasmania and celebrate World Cup matches being hosted by Tasmania.

“It was a great experience and I was very nervous at the start,” said Hussey. “My heart rate went through the roof. I didn’t want to drop the World Cup and I certainly didn’t want to drop too quickly either. It certainly got the adrenalin pumping.

“It does bring back good memories,” he continued. “Every time I see it and every time I touch it, I think back to West Indies and lifting it aloft and seeing how happy everyone was in the dressing room.

“They’ve really had a strong period in cricket, where they’ve performed well domestically as a team,” Hussey added, when asked about the talent coming through from Tasmania. A quarter of the Australian World Cup squad comes from the state. “When a team performs well you start getting individual honours and it’s a great credit to the cricket down here and the players who have done a great job in the last few years.”

When asked who he felt might win the World Cup Hussey said, “I thought the last four might be Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, but then I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an Australia v England final, so it could be anyone I guess.”

As to his own future, Hussey was quick to deny plans for an imminent retirement. He is in the auction for the next Indian Premier League and keen to be picked up by an Indian franchise and will be talking to Sydney Thunder about competing in BBL|05.

The ICC Cricket World Cup tournament, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, begins on 14 February this year.

The excitement is certainly starting to mount!
