BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya should globalise game and revive Asian Cricket Council

Jagmohan Dalmiya’s appointment as BCCI new chief has received worldwide support.“I hope BCCI’s position on a number of ICC matters will change now,” feels ICC’s former ICC president Ehsan Mani. “The globalisation of the game was started by Mr Dalmiya, who wanted cricket to become a truly global sport and worked hard for it.

“BCCI should take a fresh look at its position of cutting back the number of participants in the 2019 World Cup to 10 teams,” he continued. “I also hope that he will revive the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and be more supportive of the non-Full Members at the ICC”.

“I hope that Mr Dalmiya will now attend the ICC meetings to represent BCCI.

“Mr Srinivasan was severely conflicted as ICC Chairman by also representing BCCI in meetings he was chairing”, he further added.

“If Dalmiya was indeed a member of nominees of Mr Srinivasan’s group, he will continue to be a major influence, at least in the short term, on the BCCI”, Mani felt.

According to the sources in the BCCI, N. Srinivasan had submitted a letter signed by his group members to allow him to continue as an ICC chairman and thus the Pawar group had no option to oppose in the AGM earlier this week.

“Dalmiya is a remarkable man with a vision and boundless energy as I remember him in 1999-2000, when he Chaired the ICC and I interacted with him as Vice Chairman cum Secretary of SLC’s first ever Interim committee under Rienzie Wijetilleke,” the former Sri Lanka official, S. Skand said.
