Jack Leaning and Will Rhodes sign long-term Yorkshire deals

Jack Leaning and Will Rhodes have become the latest players to sign long-term deals with English County Champions Yorkshire.

Leaning, who is currently enjoying a successful close season in Australia with Sydney-based side Sutherland, has agreed an extension until December 2017 and former England under 19s captain Rhodes has also signed on until the end of 2017.

The 21-year-old Leaning was an integral part of Yorkshire’s Championship winning success in 2014 playing 10 matches. As a middle-order batsman, he averaged just over 38 in LV= County Championship cricket with a top score of 99 against Sussex at Arundel.

In limited overs cricket, Leaning was more successful with a super batting average of 55 in the Royal London One-Day Cup including a maiden century of 111 not out against Essex Eagles at Scarborough last August.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with Yorkshire,” said Leaning. “I am still learning my trade as a professional cricketer. It was very special to be part of a winning team last year in my first full season. I hope that I can continue to progress and contribute to the long-term success of the Club.”

Hull-born all-rounder Rhodes is highly-regarded by the Yorkshire cricket department. He has yet to feature in a First-class match for the White Rose county, but has shown tremendous potential in the few games he has played for the Club in One-day cricket. Over the next couple of years he is keen to establish himself as a regular member of the senior squad.

“I am enjoying my cricket and in particular being part of the Yorkshire set-up,” said the 19-year-old, who has spent the off-season honing his skills with the senior side at Headingley.

“There is a great spirit amongst the group and I just love coming into Headingley every day and working on my game. I felt that I had a good season last year with the England under 19s and the Yorkshire Second XI. My aim is to continue to work hard, play well and be part of the senior set-up over the next few years. I can’t wait for the season to start.”

Since the start of the year, six players’ have signed new contracts with the Club including Alex Lees, Steve Patterson and Ryan Sidebottom in the last fortnight.
