The proposed new eight-team city-based Twenty20 competition in English cricket may have its start delayed until 2020.
The ECB have told the counties that 2020 is now the likely start date, allowing it to be part of the bidding process after the existing broadcasting deal expires in 2019.
The ECB, who are introducing the competition in addition to the current 18-county T20 Blast in order to play catch up with the Indian Premier League and Australia’s Big Bash League, are now in danger of falling further behind, or missing the boat completely.
The new T20 competition received a 16-3 vote go ahead at the ECB board meeting at Lord’s in September.
The three counties to vote against the proposal were Surrey, Kent and Sussex, but many other counties are concerned at the impact the city-based competition would have on their own futures.
