#BBL05 GAME 19: Frugal Tremain cues up Gayle and Finch to seal Renegades win

Chris Gayle belted 31 in 15 balls, of which 7 disappeared for boundaries, as he and Aaron Finch saw Melbourne Renegades to victory over Hobart Hurricanes.

But the thunderous West Indian was soon in trouble after his dismissal for his post innings interview with Channel 10’s Mel McLaughlin.

Gayle was dismissed to the last ball of the Powerplay overs, but at 84 for one chasing 141 for victory the result was in the bag.

Aaron Finch was playing his last game for the Renegades before Australia’s ODI series against West Indies was out shortly before the finishing line for 60 from 39 balls. His clean hitting brought 11 boundaries but he was caught at deep midwicket looking for his first maximum to make the score 119 for three in the 11th over.

Finch had won the toss and it was not surprising after losing their last three games when batting first that the Renegades skipper chose to chase. Finch then chose to open the bowling with spin at both ends on a sticky surface and at the end of the lowest-scoring six over Powerplay of BBL05 the Hurricanes were reeling at 20 for three.

Xavier Doherty turned one sharply to bowl Tim Paine, Kumar Sangakkara guided Chris Tremain to third man and George Bailey duffed Cameron Gannon to mid-off. Tremain was very impressive, a performance that saw his 1-11 from 4 overs earn him the Player of the Match award.

Dan Christian (59 from 40 balls) led a Hurricanes counter attack before he launched Doherty to the hands of Cooper at long-on to take the score to 104 for five in the 17th over. Ben Dunk’s run-a-ball 37 had ended in the previous over when caught by Finch at deep midwicket off Gannon. Jonathan Wells (26* off 18 balls) boosted the total to 140, but it was never enough to challenge the Renegades big guns.
