Wankhede Stadium ban U-turn on Shah Rukh Khan upsets security guard

While Shah Rukh Khan has thanked the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for lifting his Wankhede Stadium ban, the security guard he confronted is not happy.Three years ago the Bollywood superstar, known as SRK, was banned for five years from the Wankhede Stadium after he misbehaved with security staff following a match between KKR and Mumbai Indians.

SRK and his entourage allegedly abused Wankhede Stadium security guard, Vikas Dalvi, with cuss words and the subsequent incident reached such a level the MCA felt they had no alternative than to ban him from the ground.

At the time MCA officials lodged a police complaint against SRK on the grounds he was drunk and abusive to officials. In 2014, MCA offered to temporarily lift the ban during a failed attempt to bring the IPL final back to Mumbai. That offer had been only for that IPL final.

The 49-year-old star of ‘Chennai Express’ and co-owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) tweeted over the weekend: “My gentle father-in-law made me realise how little it matters who was right or who was wrong. What matters is grace. Thanks MCA for your graciousness.”

But the MCA’s U-turn has not gone down well with the Wankhede security guard who bore the brunt of the incident on 18 May 2012. Vikas Dalvi was asked to go on leave after his experience with SRK and was subsequently honoured by the MNS (Maharashtra NavNirman Sena) for his braveness.

“I am not happy with this Managing Committee’s decision,” said Dalvi. “What can be done? It is their decision and I can’t argue on this.

“The members of the committee didn’t speak to me before lifting the ban, or even after this,” Dalvi continued. “I don’t know whether I would be able to shake hands with SRK at the Stadium.”

Shah Rukh Khan insists he did not misbehave. He has always insisted that he reacted after some children, including his own, had been manhandled by the stadium security staff.
