Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards today paid tribute to Australian women’s vice-captain, Alex Blackwell, who will make her 200^th international appearance in the Women’s Ashes Test against England at Canterbury.

She is the first Australian female player to reach the milestone.

Blackwell made her international debut in 2003 as a talented all-rounder and has gone on to become a key contributor to Australia’s success on the world stage, which has included World Cup victories in 2005 and 2013 and ICC World T20 championships in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

“Alex’s 200^th match for Australia is a remarkable achievement that says so much about her talent, professionalism and dedication,” said Edwards. “It is quite clear that those qualities have been key drivers of the Southern Stars’ success throughout her decorated career.

“This latest milestone adds to her already wonderful playing record that includes an incredible five world championships, 13 domestic titles and a reputation as a champion of our game.

“Australian cricket is incredibly proud of Alex’s efforts both on and off the field as a true leader and role model for aspiring cricketers across our country. No doubt her family, friends and teammates share in that immense pride.”

The Commonwealth Southern Stars lead the Women’s Ashes Series 2-1 heading into the sole Test match of the series.
