James Faulkner underwent scans in Melbourne late Monday on an injury to his right side sustained in Sunday’s tri-series final against England.Cricket Australia Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Scans on James Faulkner’s injured side have confirmed a moderate grade abdominal muscle strain which is consistent with a‘typical’ fast-bowing side strain injury.
“He will receive intensive treatment for the next two weeks before we can determine when he can return to batting and bowling.”
He will travel with Australia’s ICC Cricket World Cup squad to Adelaide on Friday to continue his treatment with team medical staff. Faulkner suffered the injury while bowling in Sunday’s final of the Carlton Mid ODI Series against England at the WACA Ground in Perth.
Meanwhile the prognosis for Western Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff is less optimistic.
He has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in the right side of his lower back and will be unavailable for the remainder of the BUPA Sheffield Shield season.
CT scans taken after the completion of the KFC T20 Big Bash League finals confirmed the extent of the injury which Western Warriors’s officials believe will prevent him from a return to bowling until the 2015-16 pre-season.
