Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of playing this year’s World Cup and his personal coach believes it is the international coaching system that is responsible for his injury problems.
“International coaching system is responsible for Ishant Sharma’s frequent injury problem”, says Shravan Kumar. “The present day coaching system in our country is not good enough to retain the fitness level of Asia’s fast bowlers”.
“The natural body structure of European players are stronger compared to Asian players and therefore they can sustain their fitness level for a longer period.
“The foreign coaches don’t allow our boys to bowl more overs during training sessions,” he continued. “They hardly allow a bowling practice for 30 to 60 minutes where the bowler can deliver hardly 25-30 balls.
“The pressure of playing international cricket is immense and with the lack of bowling practice, Ishant Sharma is unable to deliver,” he added. “The foreign coaches only focus on the players’ fitness and keep them engage in gym.
“The fast bowlers should be asked to practice more on bowling rather than only insisting on them to bowl in line and length and it is the main reason why Ishant Sharma is carrying frequent injury problems.”
Ishant Sharma was not selected to play the World Cup in 2011 and this time lost his rhythm before the commencement of the event.
“Obviously, we are disappointed with the news. But what can we do,” Ishant’s father Vijay said. “I am not sure whether he would remain in Australia or return. He is being guided by the team physio and the BCCI-appointee doctors. Whenever he returns, he will rush to National Cricket Academy (NCA).”
