Arran Brindle and Belinda Clark awarded MCC Honorary Life Membership

The MCC has awarded Honorary Life Memberships to former England all-rounder Arran Brindle and ex-Australia batsman Belinda Clark.

Brindle, 33, played 11 Tests, 88 One-Day and 35 T20 Internationals for England between 1999 and 2014. She was also part of three Ashes-winning sides in 2005, 2008 and 2009 and in 2011 became the first woman in England to score a century in men’s Premier League cricket, making 128 for Louth against Market Deeping in Lincolnshire. She took a break from cricket in 2005 to start a family, before returning to the England side in 2011 and eventually retiring three years later.

Brindle also played for MCC in the inaugural MCC Women v Rest of the World Women Lord’s bicentenary match last year.

Belinda Clark enjoyed a 24-year career in cricket and captained Australia between 1994 and 2005. In 1997, she became the first person to hit a double century in a women’s One-Day International. She holds Australia’s record for Test and One-Day International runs as well as ODI appearances. She is currently manager of the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, and last week presented a medal in her name to current Australia captain Meg Lanning at the annual Allan Border Medal Ceremony in Sydney.

“It’s a great pleasure to announce this news, and both women are extremely deserving of their Honorary Life Membership of MCC,” said John Stephenson, MCC Head of Cricket. “Women’s cricket is going from strength to strength which is due in no small part to the contributions of players like Arran and Belinda, so we’re very happy to give them this recognition.”

Arran Brindle said: “I’m delighted to have been given this accolade and am very proud to be a Member of such a prestigious Club as MCC. There are some huge names from women’s cricket who are also Honorary Life Members and I’m honoured to take my place alongside them.”

Honorary Life Membership is awarded by the MCC Committee to individuals in recognition of the service they have given to the cricket and projects surrounding the game, often over a very long period. There are now more than 300 Honorary Life Members of MCC out of a total Full Membership of 18,000.
