Former left-arm pace bowler Wasim Akram, 49, became a father for a third time on Saturday as his Australian wife Shaniera Akram delivered a baby-girl in Melbourne.
“The health of newly-born baby and her mother are very good,” said Wasim’s manager Arsalan Shah. “Mrs. Akram will be discharged from a private hospital on Sunday evening.
“The exact weight of the baby girl is not known but from the photograph of her shows she is likely to be of 7-8 lbs weight. The family has kept her name as Ailya.”
“Wasim, myself and our boys would like to thank everyone for welcoming our little princess Aiyla into the world. We couldn’t be happier”,Akram’s wife tweeted from the hospital.
Wasim Akram has been in Australia with his two sons born from his first wife (Huma), who died some five years ago.
“Taimur and Akbar have Christmas vacation and therefore Akram took them with him to Australia. The elder son Taimur plays guitar well and Akbar likes to play Table tennis”, the manager informs. “Akram will enjoy fatherhood more this time because when his two sons were born, he was travelling a lot for cricket”, the manager added.
“In fact, Akram was to do commentary (from studio in India) for the ongoing Test between India and Australia but took off (from Star Sports) for the family commitments. He obliged his earlier commitments.”
