‘My son is a fighter and will never quit,’ says Yuvraj Singh’s mother

Shabnam Singh was not expecting the axe would fall on his son, Yuvraj Singh, and that he would not find a place in the probables list for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh were the five seniors have been omitted from the provisional list for the World Cup. It is being discussed that these players might never play again for the country.

However, Yuvraj’s mother is optimistic: “What can we do if he is not chosen,” she said. “I was expecting his recall and didn’t think of his omission, but it is not the end of the road for him. He is a fighter and will return”.

Shabnam has been a pillar of strength for Yuvi, who would turn 33 next Friday.”I shall try and make him realise that it’s just the part of the game and he will come out of it.

“He will be playing a Deodhar Trophy match in Patiala tomorrow. I am yet to speak to him but take it from me that he is not considering to quit the game.”

In 2011, Yuvraj was on the top of the world and had helped India vanquish the demons of yesteryear by helping India win the World Cup.

His performance in the series mad him to win the Player of the Series award.

“He also fought against cancer and similarly will fight for his place in the team”, the mother hoped.
