Saeed Ajmal wants to prepare properly, not play domestic games

Saeed Ajmal, currently banned from international cricket for a suspect bowling action, is apparently not keen on testing his new action in domestic cricket.

It emerged yesterday that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wanted to run the rule over Ajmal in a Pakistan A fixture against Kenya. But ajmal will be subject to another private biomechanics test on his bowling action this week.

“Saeed spoke to Iqbal Qasim and apparently he wants to prepare himself directly for the biomechanics test of the International Cricket Council (ICC) before the World Cup,” said a source at the PCB.

“The review committee strongly felt that while Saeed had shown remarkable improvement in his bowling action but since he had remodelled his action to achieve this they have questions over whether he will be as effective as before which is why they want him to play domestic matches this month.”

The 37-year-old has been working closely with former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mustag to remodel his action and the pair are said to be pleased with his progress. He showed a vast improvement during a recent test at an ICC-accredited testing centre in Cardiff. Only his doosra exceeded the 15 degree limit.

The PCB are intent on getting Ajmal back into the Pakistan team in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup. The deadline for all sides to submit their final 15-man squad for the tournament is 7 January. The concern PCB officials have in rushing the spinner back too quickly is that another failed test could result in a one-year ban.
