#CWC15: Preston Mommsen to captain Scotland at ICC Cricket World Cup

Preston Mommsen will captain Scotland during next year’s World Cup with ormer skipper Kyle Coetzer as his vice-captain.Mommsen, 27, was one of the form players at the 2014 ICC World Cup Qualifiers in New Zealand. He made 520 runs in eight innings as Scotland reached the World Cup for the third time. The South African born player was named as the ICC Associate and Affiliate Player Of The Year at the recent ICC Awards.

“It’s a huge honour to be leading the Scotland team into the 2015 Cricket World Cup,” Mommsen said. “This group of players have been together for a couple of years now, and this has always been the dream.”

Scotland will play Ireland (10 February) and the West Indies (12 February) in warm-up matches before beginning their World Cup campaign against co-hosts New Zealand in Dunedin on 17 February. They then take on England in Christchurch six days later.

Mommsen has played 26 ODIs, scoring 684 runs at an average of 31.09 and led Scotland during a recent tour of Australia and New Zealand.
