BBL|04: Michael Carberry and Yasir Arafat ready to give it a Bash for Scorchers

Perth Scorchers international signings Michael Carberry and Yasir Arafat are keen to get their club’s Big Bash League defence up and running at home on Monday against the Adelaide Strikers.

As defending champions the pressure is on and Arafat is well aware of what is expected from the Scorchers this term.

I know people are expecting a lot this year again, because we did well last year,” he said. “Everybody is expecting us to get the trophy back.

“If I recall last year, we won all our home games and we won the crucial games in the end.

“I hope that if the boys play the same as last year, there’s no (reason why) we can’t get the trophy again.”

The defence will be boosted by young Scorchers paceman. Arafat has been impressed by young quick, Joel Harris.

Looking at the bowlers at Champions League in India, Joel Paris impressed me a lot,” Arafat enthused. “He’s very young and the way he bowled in that competition, I think, was remarkable.

“He’s got a lot of time to learn and improve his bowling, so I hope he will do well in this competition as well.”

While Arafat was an interntional signing during the Scorchers triumphant BBL|03 campaign, Carberry is making his debut in the Big Bash. He is one of a number of English imports in this year’s competition, a group headlined by Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff.

“It’d be great, yeah, it’d be good to get a win over those boys,” Carberry said. “It’ll be a great tournament.

“Certainly the Twenty20 back home, KP and Fred were both involved in that.

“Not so much four-day cricket, but definitely the Twenty20 they both still play,” Carberry continued. “I’ve had a chance to play against Kev a few times. I missed out playing against Fred, but he still looks in good form.”
