Friday’s RAM SLAM T20 Challenge at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg proved to be the topic of conversation in the cricket circles the country over, as 19 year old fan, Kallie van der Merwe, caught the coveted six off the bat of Rassie van der Dussen.
When the student from Heidelberg was asked what he would do with his stake in the one million Rand prize money, he responded excitedly with, “A December holiday in Stilbaai with my friends and the rest I will put into savings, as I am still too young to be sure how I would spend it.
“I heard about the competition from my parents and decided that my friends and I would attend as many games as possible so that we could stand a chance at winning a share in the money. Seems it paid off but we are not stopping,” added Kallie who intends on attending further games.
This year sponsoring partners of the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge, Ram Hand to Hand Couriers took a decision to award one million Rand to an attendee over 18 years of age, who catches a six with one hand during a televised match.
Sunday 9 November, Bosman Puren from Potchefstroom managed to achieve the same during the match between Chevrolet Knights and the bizhub Highveld Lions. Now, Puren stands to either split the million equally with Kallie van der Merwe or endure multiple splits pending further winners during the upcoming T20 televised games.
Both winners attended the Triple Header at the Sahara Kingsmead Stadium in Durban last night, where they enjoyed the match from the Ram Hospitality Suite.
