Knights maintain RAM SLAM T20 momentum with Titans win

The Chevrolet Knights put in another comprehensive performance to beat The Unlimited Titans by 35 runs at SuperSport Park and maintain their place at the top of the RAM SLAM T20 table.

While Andre Russell made telling contributions with bat and ball and was named the Ram Slammer of the Day, the Knights could point to three other players in each department that had backed the West Indian up.

Openers Rudi Second (44) and Gerhardt Abrahams (41) continued their good form as they put on 59 in the first six overs despite being put in to bat by the Titans, while Tumelo Bodibe (26) also chipped in. That provided the perfect launchpad for Russell, who clobbered eight fours and two sixes in his 48 from just 21 balls.

Although Darren Sammy (3 for 21) stemmed the run flow late on with three wickets in four balls, earning him the Ram Deliverer of the Day prize, the Knights still finished on 179 for seven.

The Knights had spoken before the game about the importance of the Titans’ opening partnership, and Russell was the man to break it. Henry Davids was in full flow on 29 from 18 deliveries when he was bowled by Russell and, with Roelof van der Merwe departing in the next over, the Titans were on the back foot.

Despite the best efforts of Dean Elgar, who batted through the 20 overs to finish unbeaten on 65, they were unable to recover as the Knights attack held firm.

All of their bowlers went for less than nine runs per over, and the only disappointment for the visitors was that they were unable to restrict the Titans to 143 or less and pick up a bonus point.

The Titans passed that mark off the penultimate ball of the match and finished on 144 for five.
