Shaun von Berg skittles the Knights with 7 for 66

Shaun von Berg claimed 7 for 66 as The Titans surged ahead on day three of their Sunfoil Series clash with the Knights at the Diamond Oval.

After the first two days had failed to separate the two sides, the third proved crucial as the Titans’ last-wicket pair gave the visitors a small lead before the Knights were knocked over for just 166.

Although the Titans lost Heino Kuhn and Francois le Clus in their pursuit of 156 for victory, captain Henry Davids was still at the wicket as they closed on 48 for two.

CJ de Villiers (57) and Vincent Moore (48 not out) had already put on 78 for the 10th wicket on day two, and on Saturday they extended that to an incredible 106 before Quinton Friend finally had De Villiers caught behind to complete a five-wicket haul. However, the hero of the day turned out to be Shaun von Berg as he rattled through the Knights to claim figures of 7 for 66.

The hosts made a strong start with the bat as Reeza Hendricks (45) and Gihahn Cloete (30) put on 69 for the first wicket, but Von Berg dismissed both openers as well as Rilee Rossouw in quick succession, and Moore (3 for 25) took care of Rudi Second, Obus Pienaar and Werner Coetsee.

With no contributions down the order the Knights had set the Titans a gettable target, and Kuhn took a chunk out of it by scoring 36 from just 33 deliveries before he was bowled by Corne Dry.

Le Clus’ dismissal was followed by the players leaving the field for bad light five balls later, so Davids will start the day in partnership with nightwatchman De Villiers.
