Shaun Marsh not given up on Tests but BBL03 Big Final hopes slim

Shaun Marsh has been replaced for Australia’s upcoming Test series in South Africa due to injury after earning a recall to the Test squad for the first time in two years last month.

A calf strain playing for Australia in an ODI on Australia Day has forced him out of the squad but has not dampened his desire to play Test cricket.

“I worked really hard to give myself an opportunity to play Test cricket again, so for it to be taken away due to injury is hugely disappointing”, Marsh admitted. “You can’t help getting injured, it’s part of the game so I’ve just got to do everything I can to stay injury free from now on.

“I’m definitely not closing the door as I’m obviously back in the mix now”, he added. “If I can perform well and get a few runs on the board in the last few Shield games, hopefully I’ll be there or thereabouts.

“There’s plenty to play for, it’s nice to be back among the Australian set-up again.”

Marsh’s Perth Scorchers play their BBL03 semi-final against Sydney Sixers at the SCG on Wednesday. Marsh is not fit to play and acknowledges his hopes of featuring in the Big Final are slim.

“It’s obviously a long shot, but I’m not going to rule myself out.

“The improvement it’s shown over the past few days, there’s a slim hope there, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
