The Dolphins kept the pressure on the Cape Cobras in the race for a RAM SLAM T20 home final as they beat The Titans by eight wickets at SuperSport Park on Wednesday to move within two points of the Cobras.
Both the Dolphins and the Cobras have two matches remaining, meaning there will be no room for error on the final weekend of the league stage.
The result also means the Titans are no longer in charge of their own fate - they still trail the third-placed Chevrolet Warriors by two points, with both franchises set to play their final game on Sunday.
The Dolphins’ victory was set up by a brilliant all-round bowling performance which restricted the Titans to just 115 for seven after they were put in to bat, before Cody Chetty and Morne van Wyk both hit half-centuries to see the visitors to victory with more than three overs to spare.
It took just five deliveries for the Dolphins to gain the upper hand as Kyle Abbott bowled Henry Davids in the first over, and the momentum never switched hands from there.
Mthokozisi Shezi claimed the incredible figures of 2 for 16 from four overs, including the wicket of Faf du Plessis, while Robbie Frylinck took 2 for 22 as the Dolphins refused to take their foot off the Titans’ neck.
The key to the chase was always likely to be how the Dolphins batsmen played Saeed Ajmal, but while the Pakistan spinner claimed both wickets to fall, Chetty handled him well in an 84-run stand for the second wicket with Van Wyk.
Although Chetty fell for 50 trying to hit the boundary that would have brought a bonus point, Van Wyk’s six off Morne Morkel secured the victory in the next over and also saw him finish 50 not out.
