David Lucas has retired from first-class cricket after he and Worcestershire mutually agreed to end his contract ahead of the 2014 season. Lucas, 35, had been told that first team opportunities would be minimal.
The left-arm pace bowler started his career with home county, Nottinghamshire, in 1999 and also played for Yorkshire and Northamptonshire before joining Worcestershire in 2011. Lucas falls just five matches short of 100 first-class matches, in which he took 264 wickets at 32.43.
Lucas explained “I’m very much looking forward to continuing my cleaning business along with progressing my coaching opportunities and spending more time with my wife and family.”
In October 2006 he and his wife, Donna, set up Pristine Clean Nottingham to provide exterior cleaning services.
