Sachin Tedulkar hundred in landmark Test wanted by former greats

Darren Sammy and company may be wanting to “spoil” Sachin Tendulkar’s 200th Test match party in India, but at least one West Indian believes that many former greats want Master-blaster to score 100 runs in this Test.

Sports psychologist Rudi Webster, the Barbados-born all-rounder who has worked with the West Indies team and also had a short stint with the Indian side, is keen to see Sachin Tendulkar scoring a hundred in his 200th match.

Speaking exclusively from his home in Greneda, the 75-year-old Webster said, “How wonderful is it that Sachin Tendulkar will now play his 200th and possibly his last Test match in India instead of South Africa?”

“I hope that he marks his departure from the game with a century against the West Indies in Mumbai and gives his loyal and longtime supporters in India and around the world a final glimpse of his brilliance and genius.

“Sachin will be under a lot of pressure to do well and the West Indies bowlers will try to get him out early but he should use that pressure to lift his game and be a hero for his team and country one last time”, Webster continued.

Webster added, “I believe that Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Vivian Richards, Brian Lara and other great players from the Caribbean would like him to bat well in his 200th Test even though he will be playing against the West Indies”, Webster added.

“T20 cricket has captured the minds of the young players in India but batsmen who want to play well in Test cricket should commit themselves to watching, studying and copying the great master”, he concluded.

Many superb tributes have already been paid to Sachin but none greater than the praise from Indian captain M.S.Dhoni.

In Rudi Webster’s book Think Like A Champion, Dhoni said, “Playing with Sachin is like having a God coming into this world and blessing you. The kind of character he is and the way he has conducted himself on and off the field over a period of twenty years is really amazing. In his first year he became a superstar and in the next twenty years his life was like that of a demigod. Sachin is a true professional and his passion and love for the game have remained unchanged during those years. He has been a role model and an inspiration to me and to everyone in the Indian team.”
