Haroon Lorgat, the current chief executive of Cricket South Africa and former CEO of the International Cricket Council, has suggested a global anti-corruption body be established for all sports.
Lorgat was speaking to the SportAccord, the International Federations Union, an umbrella organisation for both Olympic and non-Olympic international sports federations as well as organisers of international sporting events.

In his brief speech, made available to World Cricket Badger, Lorgat said, “Effective regulation is necessary to protect sport and to deter fixers”.
He outlined an environment which assisted those intent on corruption:
Big money with big temptation to bet on outcomes
New technologies have enhanced betting opportunities
Greed provides more reason to manipulate for personal gain through illicit means
Existence of illegal betting markets/syndicates
Poor regulatory frameworks
And added that current realities present enormous risk to the integrity of all sports. Lorgat suggested the required response should include:
Education, vigilance and prevention strategies
Investigation, prosecution and sanction
The need for strong regulatory frameworks, both sports disciplinary codes and domestic legislation… a criminal offence
Co-ordination between sporting codes and law enforcement agencies – need more than mere information sharing
Zero-tolerance… Lip service is simply not enough!
Lorgat concluded:
It is time for Leaders to lead
Need to join hands to fight the curse of corruption
Time to act definitively is now
Adopt global zero-tolerance
Establish regulatory frameworks with severe sanctions
Consider global anti-corruption body for all sports
Haroon Lorgat’s presentation included media reports quoting India Sports Minister, Jitendra Singh, and India Union Law Minister - Kapil Sibal;s views on fixing in sports.
