Corey Collymore leaves Middlesex but plans to continue playing career

Corey Collymore has set his sights on continuing his county career following Middlesex’s surprise decision to release him after three years at the club. The 35-year-old former West Indies seamer completed his stint with an impressive performance during Middlesex’s 80-runs defeat at Headingley, which was marked by players of both clubs giving him a guard of honour off the pitch.

But rather than end his career on that note, Collymore intends to carry on and will be looking at further opportunities once he has had a break after the end of the English county season.

“It was a really good gesture from the players and good to see people appreciate your efforts,” said Collymore. “Middlesex have got lots of good players, but people move on and these things happen in cricket.

“ I am bowling well now, although no one knows what the future holds, but I still think I’ve got a few years left in me. I’m not talking to anyone at the moment - I just want to relax for a few weeks and then I am going to think about cricket after that.”

Angus Fraser, Middlesex’s Director of Cricket, added: “It’s not a coincidence that Corey’s three years at Middlesex came during a period when the club has made considerable progress.

“He is a wonderful pro and and an exceptional man. He is proud, honest, hard working and sets a wonderful example to our young and seasoned cricketers.”
