A century from opener Quinton de Kock and four wickets each for spinners Aaron Phangiso and Jean Symes helped the Highveld Lions to a resounding victory over neighbours the Titans in the inaugural Momentum eKasi Challenge match.
Played at the Mamelodi Cricket Club just outside Pretoria, this 50-over friendly was the first of four matches between the two teams - one scheduled per year - to be played in the under privileged areas of Pretoria and Johannesburg.
“Bringing top-class cricket to the township” was the slogan used in the build up to the clash which saw the Lions post 260-9 thanks in the main to 104 off 112 balls, including nine fours and two sixes from left-handed de Kock.
De Kock shared century partnerships for the first two wickets with captain Stephen Cook (51) and Rassie ven der Dussen (43).
The wicketkeeper batsman then saw left-arm spinners Phangiso and Symes wreak havoc as the Titans lost their last eight wickets for just 40 runs to slip from 93-2 to 133 all out in 31 overs. They lost by 127 runs.
