The Jamaica Tallawahs have won the inaugural Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPLt20) after a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
The Warriors made 128-5 after being put into bat and with Chris Gayle responding with a captain’s and Man of the Match innings of 47 from 48 balls, the Tallawahs won with 15 balls in hand.
Winning captain Chris Gayle was proud to be the first captain to lift the CPLt20 trophy.
“I didn’t plan to give it away today as I wanted it so badly,” he said shortly after getting his hands on the silverware. “Credit must go to the organisers, the sponsors, also the players and the fans watching the tournament.”
“It’s been wonderful and I’m happy that it’s ended on a positive note for us with the trophy and hopefully next year it can be even bigger and better”, he concluded.
Gerard Butler, Hollywood actor who has an equity share in the Tallawahs, said, “It’s unbelievable. I decided to invest in this league and invest in Jamaica and I’ve had the best few days of my life.watching these guys.”
“They’ve been amazing and tonight they showed what a great team they are. I’ve had such a blast, this league is great. I’m so glad I got involved”, added Butler.
