A Pakistan cricket team’s participation in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLt20) is under scrutiny. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India will “carefully examine” the Faisalabad Wolves players visa applications, including that of Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
The tournament begins on 17 September, but political tension has increased on the Pakistan/India border where Pakistani troops entered Indian territory along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August where they ambushed a patrol killing five Indian soldiers.
A spokesman for the MEA told the Hindu Times, “We have been approached by a cricket team from Pakistan to participate in the Champions League Twenty20 event. It does not start for a month. We will carefully examine before we take a decision in this regard.”
The PCB plan to regularly communicate with the BCCI to resolve any issues that may arise.
