IPL: Steven Smith will heavily rely on Dhoni at Rising Pune Supergiants

Steven Smith, the new captain of Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will heavily rely” on the former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“MS Dhoni has a vast wealth of experience in the IPL and international cricket,” said Smith’s father, Peter. “I am sure he will be one of the senior players on whom Steven will rely for tactical input throughout the game.
“It is a great privilege to be asked to captain any side. The Supergiant franchise have a number of good international and Indian players and it would be very exciting to have the opportunity to lead them.”
The 28-year-old Australian has replaced R Ashwin as the RPS skipper. Ashwin is unlikely to feature in IPL 2017 after suffering a hernia.
“The decision to replace MS Dhoni with Steven is one made by the franchise owners and not a decision on which I should comment,” added Peter.
RPS play their first match on Thursday against Mumbai Indians at Pune.
