Umer Daraz, a Pakistan fan of Virat Kohli arrested for hoisting an Indian flag, has been granted bail by a Punjab court.
Daraz has spent the last month in prison after being arrested on 25 January for displaying the flag on the roof of his house. The fan of Kohli had been arrested after India had defeated the Australian team in a T20 match where Kohli had scored 90 runs. Police raided Daraz’s home and found several of Kohli’s posters in his house. Being a very sensitive issue in Pakistan the report was not highly covered at the time in the Pakistani media.
Daraz had a previous bail applocation denied on 18 February, but the latest plea was successful after the court ordered him to post a surety bond of Rs 50,000. Daraz is expected to submit the bond today (Saturday) and be released on bail. In a strange querk of fate India play Pakistan in the Asia Cup today.
