Tamim Iqbal showed his experience with an unbeaten 55 to steer Peshawar Zalmi to victory over Lahore Qalandars by nine wickets.
Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and their bowling attack did the job again as they restricted the Qalandars to 117 for six.
Azhar Ali (31 from 41 balls) was the only member of Lahore’s top four made a meaninful contribution. Chris Gayle was bowled by Junaid Khan first ball and Cameron Delport run out without scoring, while Mohammad Rizwan was caught behind off Shaun Tait for only 4 as the innings crumbled to 4 for three after 10 balls.
Umar Akmal (21), Dwayne Bravo (32) and Hammad Azam (18*) steadied the ship and saw Lahore to the end of their 20 overs. But that initial collapse and useful overs from the spinners had sucked the life out of their fight. Mohammad Asghar (2-11) and Shahd Afridi (0-18) from their respective four over spells had not allowed a meaninful recovery.
Tamim Iqbal added 95 in 68 balls for the opening wicket with Mohammad Hafeez (43 off 37 balls) as the Zalmi reply only faltered when Hafeez was stumped in the 12th over. The win was secured with four overs to spare.
Peshawar Zalmi 118 for 1 (Tamim 55*, Hafeez 43) beat Lahore Qalandars 117 for 6 (Bravo 32, Asghar 2-11) by nine wickets
