Bob Taylor recovering well after heart surgery

Former England wicket keeper Bob Taylor is recovering well after heart surgery, according to his wife, Cathy. Taylor, who will be 74 later this week, underwent surgery last Wednesday.“He is much better than before and the operation was very successful,” Cathy confirmed. “He has not been brought to a normal ward yet. May be soon he will be brought outside. There is no TV set in the recovery room and therefore can’t watch the matches.”

The veteran of 57 Tests and 27 One-Day Internationals was therefore unable to watch England’s success in the first Ashes Test match at Cardiff on Saturday. Taylor took 167 Test catches and 7 stumpings and is widely considered as one of the finest wicketkeepers to have ever played the game.

“It may take a few more days before he is being discharged for home,” Cathy added. “The doctors have not informed us on his date of discharge from the hospital”.

Get well soon messages

“I don’t think any former players have visited him in the hospital,” Cathy continued. “Maybe they are busy in the game, but yes, he has been reading several get well soon messages every day and he is very thankful to his well wishers.
