Nepal tragedy means Phil Hughes tribute “incomplete”

Chhurim Sherpa’s mission of reaching the top of Mt. Everest with late Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes’ bat and jersey is “incomplete”.

Sherpa captained one of the teams in Hughes’ memorial match, which was played in Kathmandu last month.
All-rounder Binod Das says, “the girl’s expedition could not be ‘successful’ because of the recent tragic event in this country”.
Last month, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had assigned the job of carrying Hughes’ kit on top of the Everest to an experienced Nepali mountaineer, Ms. Chhurim Sherpa.
“I heard she is returning back as it is not possible to continue with this task at the moment”, he said. “She is uncertain at this stage when she would re-attempt the journey to the planet’s highest point to pay the tribute to Hughes, who was also her favourite cricketer. She is safe and she will reattempt to take the things to Mt. Everest once the situation is settled down.”
“Paras Khadka, the captain of the national team went to Australia to generate help for Nepal cricket but since this earthquake happened, he is taking in various fundraising events to raise funds for the victims,” Das added.
