#IPL: No Sri Lanka players banned from IPL matches at Chennai

IPL matches in Chennai will not feature Sri Lankan cricketers or match officials due to growing political tension, stemming from the treatment of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka.

IPLadvertIn 2013 the IPL prevented Sri Lanka players featuring in all matches played at Chepauk.

The Tamil Nadu state government had sent a letter to the prime minister seeking a ban on Sri Lankan involvement in the Chennai leg of IPL stating it would “aggravate an already surcharged atmosphere and further offend the sentiments of the Tamil people.”

IPL franchises have already been informed on the ban.

The ban in 2013 affected most IPL sides, however only three Sri Lankans feature in this year’s competition - Angelo Mathews (Delhi Daredevils), Thisara Perera (Main photo, Kings XI Punjab), Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians).
