#BBL|05: Hilfenhaus shoots into the Melbourne Stars bowling attack

Melbourne Stars’ line up is starting to take shape for the next KFC T20 Big Bash League, with pace bowler Ben Hilfenhaus joining the club on a multi-year contract.Ben Hilfenhaus has agreed to terms on a three year deal which will see him bolster the Melbourne Stars bowling attack until the end of BBL|07.

“I’ve played against all the guys before, so it will be good to finally have them on my side,” said Hilfenhaus. “The bowling line up is pretty strong and they seem to have all bases covered so I’m looking forward to working with them and carving out a role depending on what the coach and captain want from me.”

“It’s really exciting for the Stars to have Stephen Fleming on board. I’ve played under him with Chennai and I’m looking forward to working with him in Melbourne and improving on my T20 knowledge.”

Hilfenhaus has played with the Hobart Hurricanes for the previous three seasons of the BBL and currently plays with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL under new Stars head coach Fleming.

Commenting on the pace bowler joining his Melbourne team, Fleming said, “We’re very pleased to have contracted a bowler of Ben’s calibre with the Stars. His ability to strike with the new ball as well as his versatility later in the innings will be vital for the Stars this season.”

The signing of Hilfenhaus coincided with the loss of another tall paceman, Jackson Bird, who has agreed to terms with the Sydney Sixers to be closer to his family.

Melbourne Stars Chief Executive Clint Cooper said, “It was sad to see Jackson leave the Club after four terrific years. Jackson was a foundation player of our Club and has been a great contributor on and off the field. We wish him all the best in the next phase of his career and look forward to facing him when we next play the Sixers.”

The Melbourne Stars has also agreed to terms with Luke Wright and Tom Triffitt, bringing the tally of contracted players for BBL|05 to 12. Negotiations continue with other out of contract players, and a number of announcements are still to be made over the coming months.
