Player contracting for BBL|05 began on Monday with the eight franchises now able to enter into agreements with players for the next Big Bash season.
The BBL Contracting Start Date was set five days after the conclusion of the BBL|04 Final following a review of contracting rules at the end of last season.
The BBL contracting framework remains largely unchanged from BBL|04 with the only notable changes being an earlier start to contracting and the BBL salary cap increasing by $100,000 to $1.3m.
Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager Operations, Mike McKenna, said: “Following a review of our contracting guidelines last season including feedback from the eight clubs, we have shortened the BBL Contracting Embargo Period.
“The BBL Contracting Embargo Period was originally put in place to allow time to review and make changes to the rules for the coming season. As the League now enters its fifth year with a well-established set of contracting rules, the Embargo Period has been shortened.
“The two Trade Periods will also remain in place to give clubs the flexibility to build their strongest possible squad ahead of what promises to be another exciting season.
“The contracting rules have allowed for the clubs to introduce some wonderful talent to the League which has been a key reason for its success to date. This depth of cricketing talent has been highlighted at venues across Australia during the BBL season, cementing the League as a summer staple for families and school holiday entertainment.”
