#SAvWI: Charl Langeveldt joins Proteas for limited overs series

Former South African fast bowler, Charl Langeveldt, will join the Proteas for the limited-overs series (T20’s and ODI’s) against the West Indies as part of the national team’s information-sharing and mentorship initiative.

Langeveldt, who has had good success with the bowlers at the Nashua Cape Cobras, has been called in to share knowledge and to add experience to his development as a coach.

Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee, explained. “In the past we have brought in franchise coaches, physiotherapists and trainers within our structures to experience and learn how the Proteas environment operates. Charl has made good strides as High Performance coach with the Cobras and we feel this will be a great opportunity for him to get a feel of coaching at the highest level and to further enhance his credentials as a developing coach within our structures.”

Langeveldt says this opportunity will help with his progress and growth as a coach: “There is a big difference between playing and coaching so this opportunity will give me a good gauge of where I am as a coach. I am still quite early in my coaching career so hopefully I can gain some valuable tips and guidance during my time with the Proteas.”

Proteas coach, Russell Domingo, said: “Charl was an incredibly skilled bowler during his time playing for South Africa and, if anything, the youngsters will learn a lot from his expertise. He has shown a lot of promise with the work he has done with some of the bowlers in the Cobras set-up so hopefully he will gain some valuable experience and understanding during his time with us.”

The national selectors have added Justin Ontong to the TicketPros Proteas squad for the KFC T20 International Series against the West Indies as cover for JP Duminy.
