Dharam Singh, the one time principal of Team India’s recently retired Test captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has advised his ex-pupil to help the field of education.
“Dhoni was a student of my school when I was a Principal of DAV Shyamli School (Mecon),” said Singh. “Dhoni can help the boys in educational field.
“Yes, I am aware that Dhoni didn’t complete his graduation and only passed 12th class. But now being more matured and fluent in English he can certainly enter into educational radar.”
Dhoni had failed in the 1st year of his B Com exams and his name was put up on the notice board of St Xavier’s College in 2008 for his graduation. He did get the admission under sports quota and was also exempted from attending classes because of his cricketing commitments.
“Now being free from Test burden, Dhoni can certainly devote more time and concentrate on his studies. I think he has not finished his graduation but can complete it now,” the ex-principal added.
Politics in cricket
Dhoni’s retirement decision from Test cricket did surprise D.R.Singh.
“I came to know about his sudden decision through papers this morning. Yes, this strange decision did surprise me but happy that he is still to continue to play the ODIs, and Twnety20s,” Singh added.
D.R.Singh believes that there is politics in the game. “There is lot of politics in the game. Dhoni is being often criticised for changing batting orders and this may be one of the reasons for his to decide the quit the game. I have also heard that Dhoni is planning to start a cricket academy in Ranchi soon”.
Well disciplined man
Dhoni’s principal also recalled the incident which showed how disciplined man he is and his respect for the teachers.
“Dhoni came to our school in 2005 and showed us the pen he was gifted by his commerce teacher (Mrs. Kumar) in 1999. He told us that he has still preserved the pen and has been using it for all writing work.”
