England’s warm-up game against a Prime Minister’s XI could see Kevin Pietersen take on his old team-mates, if he gets his wish.
The game, in Canberra on Wednesday, has seen PM XI captain Mike Hussey withdraw due to injury and Pietersen told SkySports, during the BBL|04 clash between his victorious Melbourne Stars team and Melbourne Renegades, that he would fancy a crack against the tourists.
When on the player mic he told the commentary box, ““In the Prime Minister’s game on Wednesday, Mr Michael Hussey’s missed out. Jeez, I fancy that.”
Gilchrist replied: “Are you telling us you are available?”
Pietersen said: “Mate, I’m always available.”
Andrew Flintoff, currently playing for Brisbane Heat, commented that England’s bowlers would be fired up to take on Pietersen. “If @KP24 plays for the primeministers XI they’ll need a turnstile at the bowlers end, they’ll be queuing up,” he tweeted.
Pietersen responded by tweeting: “I wouldn’t mind facing ‘Freddie’ at the moment. He is bowling backwards! I’d bat with a toothpick.
Flintoff’s one over against Perth Scorchers a couple of days ago was hit for 18 runs by Michael Carberry.
