The Melbourne Stars players have officially begun their planned mid-season break with many flying home for a family Christmas, including international recruit Kevin Pietersen.A majority of Stars players will return and fly to Brisbane on Boxing Day, to prepare for the upcoming match against the Heat on Sunday 28 December. Pietersen, however, will return to Australia on 30 December and resume training with the Stars on January 1.
“It was always our intention to release our players for Christmas, to allow them to spend this time with family and friends,” Melbourne Stars Chief Executive, Clint Cooper, commented. “Unfortunately the scheduling of the match in Brisbane on December 28 didn’t allow Kevin enough time to get back to Australia following his family Christmas, so it was agreed months ago that he would not partake in the match against Brisbane Heat.
“The Stars have had a particularly hectic start to the season and we feel it’s important for all of our players to regroup and come back refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the season.”
