BBL|04: Ashton Agar ‘over the moon’ on Australia call-up as Scorchers prepare for Thunder

Perth Scorchers spinner Ashton Agar has been added to the Australia squad for the fourth Test against India at Sydney on Tuesday. The Perth Scorchers named their 13-man squad for tomorrow’s game earlier today.

Scorchers Squad: Adam Voges (c), Ashton Agar, Yasir Arafat, Jason Behrendorff, Michael Carberry, Hilton Cartwright, Matthew Dixon, Marcus Harris, Michael Klinger, James Muirhead, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Sam Whiteman.

“They rely very heavily on their three overseas players,” said Scorchers coach Justin Langer. “I’ll call Mike Hussey an international, he’s an international superstar.

“Hussey, Kallis and Morgan, they’re critical for their batting line-up particularly on this wicket,” he continued. “But they’ve got a very good bowling attack. They’ve got a well balanced team. They can expect to get us really pumped and ready to go.”

Agar has reacted positively to the news that Australia have come calling once again.

“I was over the moon,” the all-rounder said. “I was a bit shocked at first but after that it felt like a dream come true again.

“I’ve never doubted myself,” he added. “(Being called up again) is always a possibility especially when you’re young.

“Blokes sometimes get their opportunity in their 30s so I guess it’s never over,” Agar concluded.

Coach Langer is delighted for his player.

It’ll depend on the SCG wicket,” Langer answered when asked whether he thought Agar would feature in the Test. “It’s great he’s still in their thoughts.

“We all know what a naturally talented player he is. We’ve said it the past few years, that’s why he’s played almost every game for Western Australia. He’s a fantastic talent and I hope he gets the opportunity.”

The Perth Scorchers’ New Year’s Day clash with the Sydney Thunder at #TheFurnace has officially sold out.

Perth Scorchers CEO Christina Matthews said: “The support for the Perth Scorchers continues to grow season by season.

“We had over 36,000 Members and supporters at #TheFurnace within five days for our first two matches. Our players love playing here, it’s always an amazing atmosphere thanks to our fans.”

The Scorchers opening two home matches in BBL|04 have both attracted crowds of 18,000-plus.

The current club record is 20,783, which turned out for last season’s BIG Final against the Hobart Hurricanes.

The match will be preceded by a performance from pop star Samantha Jade at 3.45pm, so fans are encouraged to get to #TheFurnace early.
