#AUSvIND: Geoff Marsh will ‘enjoy the moment’ if Shaun and Mitch both play

Shaun and Mitchell Marsh could play together for the Australian Test side for the first time in the second Test match against India in Brisbane. Their father and Perth Scorchers assistant coach Geoff Marsh won’t believe his sons will play until the game starts.

“You hear people talking about that they’re going to play for Australia one day and, I’m sure, in their own minds, that was their dream; to play Test cricket,” he said. “As a parent, you just hope they do the best they possibly can. Hopefully, tomorrow, they’ll walk out there and it’ll be a really proud moment.

I won’t believe it until I see them walk on the ground.

“It’ll be a nice feeling and I’m in no doubt that any dad would be really proud to see their two boys playing for Australia,” Geoff continued. “I don’t know where I’m going to watch it from. I haven’t even thought about tomorrow yet, but ask me if I’m going to be nervous and yes (I will be), because I’m always nervous when my kids play sport.

“You’re so keen and you want them to do well, you want the team to do well.

“I’m just going to try and enjoy the moment.”

As to whether it is Geoff or his wife Michelle responsible for the children’s sporting talents, Geoff does the honorable thing!

Well, we’re not sure, because we’ve been trying to look up Michelle’s sporting records, but we can’t find too many on the sporting side,” he considered. “She’s got to take the credit, because she did all the running around when they were young kids, while I was playing for Australia. She’s been a fantastic mum to them.

“The good thing is Melissa (former West Coast Waves captain Melissa Marsh) is retired now, so that cuts out Friday nights and Sunday afternoons.

“We went to the Adelaide Test Match and it was great going there and watching Mitch play his first game in Australia.

“I was lucky enough to go and watch Shaun play his first Test Match in Sri Lanka, where he got 100.

“They’re great moments,” he concluded.
