RAM SLAM T20: Chris Gayle is back for the Highveld Lions Titans clash

The Highveld Lions will have the might of Chris Gayle back in their line-up on Friday as they look to maintain their massive lead at the top of the RAM SLAM T20 standings with a sixth straight win.

The Lions won both of their games last weekend in spite of Gayle’s injury-enforced absence, but will have the Jamaican back at the top of the order for their clash with The Unlimited Titans at Sahara Park Willowmoore.

“The Big Daddy is back; he’s available for us,” Lions coach Geoffrey Toyana confirmed. “It’s been tough for him in the last two games because he always wants to play, but we just had to hold him back a bit.”

Despite missing those two games because of a back problem, Gayle still leads the run-scoring charts in the competition with 214 from three innings, and also boasts the best strike rate with the ball, having taken four wickets in four overs.

While the Lions are flying high with a five-point advantage over the second-placed Knights, the Titans remain rooted to the bottom of the table without a point at the halfway stage of the competition, meaning they will need other results to go their way if they are to lift themselves into the top three.

“I’m not sure that there is mathematically a chance (of making the playoff), even if we’d like to believe that there is,” said coach, Rob Walter.

“There may be an opportunity to give some of the younger guys an opportunity to represent the Titans and see what they have to offer the team.”
