Mawoyo’s chronic groin injury recurred and chances of him being available are minimal in spite of him undergoing treatment.

Mawoyo, who captains Zimbabwe domestic champions Manicaland Mountaineers, returned home Tuesday morning from England after turning out for Wickford Cricket Club. He got into camp but did not train.

“He is still in the hands of the physio,” team manager Stanley Chioza said. “He is one of the players who didn’t train so we wait for report from our physio. We trust our physio in doing a good job.”

His groin problem prevented him from leading Mountaineers to Pro50 Championship glory against Southern Rocks in April after the franchise rested him as a precaution. It also forced him out of the Bangladesh home series in 2013.

Zimbabwe’s bowling has been affected as Vitori is out of the Afghanistan tour and is also doubtful for the Australia and South Africa showdown because of an ankle injury that keeps him out for six weeks.

Vitori was involved in a road accident last month and to make matters worse, he has a plaster on the ankle.

The Afghanistan tour would have been an ideal platform for these two players to get game time in preparation for the Aussies and Proteas. Mawoyo opens the batting in Tests and would be vital in the one-off Test with the Proteas whilst Vitori takes the new ball in all versions.
