Saleem Malik keen on atoning for his cricket sins

WORLD CRICKET BADGER EXCLUSIVE: Former Pakistani skipper Saleem Malik is now keen on atoning for the sins of the past.

“I have suffered a lot for the things that had happened,” he said. “I want to involve in some charity work.

“I have asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to allow me to organize matches for the poor and the needy cricketers but my repeated requests have not yielded positive results.

“We set up a welfare organization called-Sportwelf-and intended to host benefit matches for few former cricketers who were not being paid in those days but the PCB has not allowed the players to participate,” he continued. “My ban was imposed some 15 years ago and during this tough time, the family has suffered a lot.

“My children were denied admissions in the school and my eldest son, Usama, is handicapped.

“Now the children have grown up,” he added. “My two other sons, Ali and Shafay, play the game at the regional level.

“The youngest son is a Hafiz, who has memorized the Quran at a young age”.

“I have requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take up my case with the ICC and get my ban lifted officially.

“I am the longest serving member of the life-ban and even the ban on Mohammad Azahruddin is revoked,” he complained, unawarethat only the ban element has been lifted by the court and the BCCI or the ICC have not cleared Azharuddin yet). “The suspected players in Pakistan are free now, why at this age my ban is not revoked.”
