India’s 25-year-old batting sensation, Virat Kohli, may face criticism for apparently not exercising his right to vote in Indian elections.

Last year he was a part of awareness campaign for the Delhi elections and earlier this year he was chosen as an ambassador to target new voters entering the election fray.
According to his coach, Rajkumar Sharma, Kohli, currently in the United Arab Emirates playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was in Bangalore on 10 April, the day of the Delhi elections.
“He (Kohli) is fond of voting,” Sharma stated. “He was in India but not in Delhi.”
Sachin Tendulkar made a special trip home to India to cast his vote, but it appears that Kohli missed the opportunity.
The Election Commissioner in Delhi, Dr Nasim Zaidi, has promised to look into the matter.
“Any citizen of India is free to decide whether to vote or not, but yes, when he has been anointed as ambassador for elections, it should have been his morale duty to vote”, Dr. Zaidi said. “On Monday, I shall ask my people to check whether he (Virat Kohli) turned up at the poll booth.”
In 2012, Kohli showed his middle finger to a section of the crowd during the second day of a Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was charged with Level 2 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct. It appears this time, Kohli’s metaphorical middle finger has been turned towards the ballot box.
