ICC needs an independent chairman, says former president Ehsan Mani

While suspended BCCI president Narayanswamy Srinivasan’s proposed chairmanship of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to be challenged in India’s Supreme Court on Tuesday, former ICC president Ehsan Mani wants an independent chairman to steer cricket’s highest governing body.

“What the ICC desperately needs is an independent chairman who is not connected to any Board,” said Ehsan Mani. “Someone of the stature of John Howard or John Major to act in the best interest of the game and all the members, but as you are well aware that is unlikely to happen.”

The former Australian PM, John Howard, is a well known cricket enthusiast and was denied the ICC’s vice presidency when it was blocked by the BCCI. John Major, the UK’s Prime Minister in the late nineties, is a big Surrey fan and keen Test match watcher.
