Resilient Titans do it again after banishing the Knights

The Titans provided another example of their never-say-die attitude as they hammered the Knights by eight wickets at the Diamond Oval on Sunday to sneak into the RAM SLAM T20 play-offs.

RamSlamLogoThe Titans pulled off a similar stunt in the Momentum One-Day Cup earlier this season, and once again their determination has earned them a play-off against the Dolphins at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Sunday.

Henry Davids’ side started the day knowing that they had to win and hope the Warriors lost if they were going to advance, and showed impressive resolve to pull the game back after the Knights moved to 73 without loss in the 12th over.

Although Rilee Rossouw (36) and Reeza Hendricks (43) set the platform for the Knights, their dismissals led to a collapse as Saeed Ajmal took three wickets in two overs.

Dean Elgar (32 not out) was able to stop the tumble of wickets at one end, but with no support from the other he could only guide the Knights to a total of 137 for seven.

The Titans reply was emphatic. Davids (42) and Heino Kuhn (30) put on 55 for the first wicket in the opening seven overs, but the surprise performer was Theunis de Bruyn, who hit an assured 53 not out from 37 balls in his first game of the competition.

De Bruyn saw the Titans over the line with 15 balls to spare as the Knights wilted, and with the Warriors falling in Cape Town, the Titans’ passage to the next round was secured.
