Pat Cummins returns to BBL03 to Scorch the Strikers

Perth Scorchers paceman Pat Cummins today marked a crucial stage in his comeback from a back injury, being cleared by the KFC Big Bash League Technical Committee to return to the Perth line-up. Cummins returns ahead of Thursday’s final home game of the regular season against the Adelaide Strikers and further bolsters one of the strongest attacks in the competition.

The Scorchers have conceded the third least runs in the competition at an average of 147.3, behind Melbourne Stars (134.5) and the Strikers (136.75).

“I played two weeks for Perth Cricket Club and I felt okay although the first week was a little scratchy, but I was really happy with how I went on the weekend”, Cummins remarked about his return. “Outside of that, I’ve been bowling in the nets every couple of days for the last five or six weeks.

“I feel really confident with where the body’s at and they are coming out okay, so hopefully I can let loose in the game.”

“When your body feels good and you’ve spent a bit of time away from the game, you’re always itching to get back”, Cummins added when asked about his recovery time. “Playing Grade games were really important for me and playing them, particularly the second one, I do feel a lot more confident going into the game.

“Unfortunately, with scheduling, it would have been nice to get a couple more games, but hopefully I’ll get a couple and then finals”, he continued. “We mapped out a plan about six months ago and that plan had me coming back for this game.

“So it was four, five, six weeks bowling in the nets, a couple of Grade games. Everything was feeling good, so we asked a couple of questions, but in the end, we all decided it was best to stick to the plan.”
